The Edmond Historic Preservation
Trust was created by the Edmond
City Council in November of 1982.
The following February, the council
appointed a nine-member board to
address historical concerns of
individual citizens which included
starting a museum, developing an
historical residential district and
preserving the qualities relating to
the history of the city of Edmond,
Oklahoma.
Finally the people of Edmond were
recognizing that the town had a rich
history which was in danger of being
lost. Since then, Trust members have
been working hard on their mission
resulting in a long list of
accomplishments.
Very early the group set its sights
on Edmond and Oklahoma Territory's
first, still standing educational
building, the 1889 public school
house which at the time was serving
as the Sanders Camera Shop. This
project took many years of research,
hard work and fund raising.
